List of PDFs
This site holds hundreds of curated open source PDF (portable document format) book files related to the three hoaxes. Included are:
- works authored by Poe
- works cited by Poe
- works described as possible sources or influences for “Phaall,” Pym, or “Used Up”
- certain background materials, such as Typographia
This arrangement provides instant access to obscure texts at the moment of reference by Poe or a commentator — a look over his shoulder at what Poe would or could have seen, if you will — for the researcher’s reflection and consideration. In most cases, an exact date match has been found for each referenced work, but variant editions are noted where used.
PDF book links are marked within text with a red icon and are listed under Sources > PDFs for each of the three hoaxes in the website’s table of contents. Each file has been reduced in size and standardized using Adobe Acrobat1 software. In some cases, “preflighting” was used to find and correct pre-press production errors. No PDF pages have been deleted.
The sortable list below provides a permanent link to each book or article. In some but not all cases, the book or article may also be linked to from another text piece, but in each case, the listing of all available PDFs is complete at this page.
